The resurrection of Jesus is at the heart of Christianity. Christians believe that Jesus was crucified, died, was buried, and then rose from the dead three days later. But you may wonder: What does an event that happened nearly two thousand years ago have to do with my life today?
According to Christianity, the answer is: almost everything.
First, the resurrection gives us hope beyond death.
Death is one of the realities every person eventually faces. We may avoid thinking about it, but sooner or later we wonder what happens when this life ends. Christianity teaches that death does not have the final word. Because Jesus rose from the dead, those who trust in Him have the hope of eternal life with God.
Jesus said, “Because I live, you also will live.”
The resurrection also means that Jesus is more than a religious teacher. Many people throughout history have offered wisdom about life, morality, and God. Christianity makes a much greater claim about Jesus: He died and rose again. His resurrection is central to the Christian belief that He truly is who He claimed to be.
The resurrection also means that forgiveness is possible.
Jesus died on the cross for our sins, but the story did not end at the tomb. His resurrection demonstrated victory over sin and death. Christians believe that because of what Jesus accomplished, we can be forgiven and restored to a relationship with God.
But the resurrection is not only about what happens after you die.
It offers the possibility of a new life right now.
Everyone has things they wish they could change. Maybe you carry regret over past decisions. Perhaps you struggle with guilt, fear, anger, disappointment, or a sense that something is missing from your life.
The Christian message says your past does not have to define your future.
Through faith in Christ, you can begin a new relationship with God. That does not mean every problem disappears or that life suddenly becomes easy. It means you no longer have to face life alone. God offers forgiveness, purpose, strength, and hope as you learn to follow Him.
The resurrection tells us that failure does not have to be final, sin can be forgiven, and even death can be overcome.
For Christians, Easter is more than remembering something remarkable that happened long ago.
It is a declaration of hope.
Jesus is alive.
And because He lives, Christianity says that you can have forgiveness, new life, and hope that reaches beyond the grave.
